Investing in your Son/Daughter’s Future

Research has consistently shown that parents and carers are the most influential factor in students’ decisions about the future. Your support and encouragement influences their choices, and the guidance you provide will be invaluable to their research consistently demonstrates that parents and carers are the most significant influence on a young person’s decisions about their future. Your support, guidance and encouragement play a crucial role in shaping their aspirations, choices and eventual career pathways.

We recognise that this responsibility can feel daunting. The employment landscape is evolving rapidly, and many of the careers your child may pursue could be very different from those familiar to previous generations — some may not yet even exist. Nevertheless, your involvement remains one of the most powerful factors in helping them to succeed.

There are several simple and practical ways in which you can support your child:

  • Discuss their current progress and estimated grades, encouraging them to aim high and fulfil their potential.
  • Talk about their aspirations and help them research the pathways required to achieve their goals, making use of the wide range of resources available within the Academy and online.
  • Encourage them to seek appropriate advice, guidance and experiences to support their ambitions.
  • Support them in identifying and completing the steps necessary to move towards their chosen pathway.
  • Encourage them to arrange meaningful work experience during the summer holidays in Years 10 and 11.

Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend their child’s careers meeting, and we encourage you to contact the Academy should you require any further information or support.

In partnership with careers professionals, employers and training providers, we offer a comprehensive careers programme to support your child’s development. This includes:

  • Information, guidance and discussion within lessons and assemblies to support informed decision-making.
  • Careers-focused activities and events, such as employability days.
  • Access to qualified careers advisers through individual appointments, drop-in sessions, enrichment activities, parents’ evenings, options evenings and on results days.
  • A range of careers information resources and computer-based careers programmes.
  • Regular updates and opportunities shared via notice boards, digital displays and the Academy website.

By working together, we can ensure that every student is well-informed, ambitious and fully prepared for their future pathway.
