Our Careers programme is comprised of the following:
Students receive individual impartial advice from our Level 7 qualified Careers advisor Nicole Moore (Progress Careers). Students identified as requiring extra support receive regular individual impartial
advice from our advisor. Impartial and independent advice is given to students in accordance with the Statutory Guidance for Schools (Jan 18)). It is organised and delivered in accordance with the Gatsby benchmarks.
All students receive a number of one-to-one meetings in either Year 10 or Year 11. Students in any year can request a Careers meeting. Any requests to see the Careers advisor should be made directly to the appropriate Learning Manager or contact Mrs Royston (Careers Lead) or Nicole Moore (Advisor).
The Careers advisor is also present at the Parents’ Evenings and other events for Years 9-11 as well as the careers fair and results day for Year 11.
Careers lessons take place within the EPC Programme. Each lesson focus is matched at KS3 and at KS4 with the CDI (Careers Development Institute) framework for careers, employability and enterprise education and in line with Gatsby Benchmarks.
· Students have encounters with employers each year through talks from guest speakers in specific careers ‘Drop down’ days and assemblies in Years 7-11.
· Students have access to our annual careers fair with potential post 16 providers and future employers
· Students across all Year groups have contact with employers and further education through various school trips and guest speakers visiting lessons.
Our Careers programme is evaluated continuously to help assess and then strengthen our careers provision.
Careers Education is provided though:
· Subject Lessons, – Information and discussions in with a subject specific focus to help you make decisions about careers based on subject knowledge and transferable skills.
· Tutorials, Assemblies & Life Lessons – Discussions and resources about the local market information, growth job sectors and
· Drop down Days – Events such as employability days, stay safe days
Information, Advice & Guidance is provided through:
· Careers Fairs – Employers, Colleges and Universities will visit the school on a regular basic to talk to you about their industry and how to train and qualify for role in that sector.
· Careers Portal – You have access to our online careers’ portal provided in partnership with progress careers
· Results Service – a team of advisers will be able to talk through your needs on results day to help you confirm your intended destination.
· Qualified 1-2-1 Guidance – You also have access to a qualified careers advisor, who will provide confidential and impartial advice to students on the information they have received or to help guide students to make fully informed decisions.
Planning for the future – if you have a career idea but want to find out the best route for you or if you have no career ideas our advisers can help you create career ideas around your interests and skills.
o GCSE & A Level Options – Choosing your options and what would best suit you.
o Apprenticeships – Finding work or an apprenticeship, including job hunting techniques including mock interviews
o Higher Education – Reviewing the options and planning the 14-19 journey
o Parents Evenings – Access to careers advisers in a variety of ways including individual meetings, drop-in sessions, enrichment activities, parents and option evenings and on results days
o Technology – Information and updates will also be available on notice boards, plasma screens and the websites
